About me

In 2004 I left Bath Spa University having studied Psychology and Religion and completed my Holistic Therapy Diploma. I then travelled until I landed in Bristol in 2007, picking up again with massage part time. It was after qualifying as a BTEC Level 5 Soft Tissue Therapist with The School (Exmouth) in 2010 my journey into movement and bodywork really began.

Since then my practice has evolved to encompass movement and rehabilitation as keystones of my approach, combining these disciplines with manual therapy to provide effective treatment. I assess the whole body and the person inside rather than single joint assessment that fails to put the parts together.

With an interest in Psychology I am very interested in the mind/body connection and the psychosocial components of an individual’s situation that can manifest as physical symptoms and perpetuate the injury cycle.

Qualified through both the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI) and STOTT as a Pilates Instructor I specialise in Pilates for injury rehabilitation. I am also a Corrective Exercise Specialist and I blend these skills together when teaching, bringing a dynamic, functional and fun approach to my classes.

I am a qualified AIM™ (Anatomy in Motion) practitioner which looks at the whole body in movement and gait to understand how the body functions. This is a fantastic way to trace injury and resolve long standing/recurrent pain.

Experience

I have been working self employed as a therapist for 10 years at a number of different multi-disciplinary clinics including Bristol University Sports Medicine Clinic, The Physio Clinic and C1 Chiropractic Health Centre. I now work from my home clinic in Eastville and continue to work at C1.

I am a tutor and mentor for The School, lecturing on the BTEC Level 5 Soft Tissue Therapy Diploma with Anna Maria Mazzieri.

I spent 3 years working for the NHS as a musculoskeletal rehabilitation therapist in Cossham physiotherapy department which I loved and found very rewarding. This spurred me to start my Physiotherapy training at Cardiff University in 2019 to progress further and expand into other areas of rehabilitation. This is currently keeping me busy for the next 2 years.

My life

I live for the mountains and the great outdoors. In my spare time my husband and I head out in our camper van with the bikes on the back and a boot full of climbing gear to escape the big city and recharge our batteries with nature and space. Recent adventures have taken us to the Dolomites and Aosta Valley in Italy (picture above) for big days out on the mountain bikes and breathtaking alpine mountaineering ascents.

My main sports are mountain biking and climbing. I also like to run, snowboard and road cycle. Anything that gets my adrenaline going!

Experience

  • Level 5 Soft Tissue Therapist
  • APPI certified Pilates Instructor
  • NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist
  • Anatomy in Motion Practitioner
  • NHS MSK Rehabilitation technician
  • BTEC Level 5 Soft Tissue Therapy Tutor and Mentor

I just wanted to say a big thanks to you and Rupert for your splendid tag team treatment last week which has made me feel so much better. Back to training ( albeit very conservatively ) and swimming too. I have a date for my ACL operation early July now but no doubt I will be coming to see you both in the meantime keep as in line as I can before then.

Elly I just wanted to thank you for your help with my knee. As I said, I rode 60 miles on Saturday without any knee problems at all. I really appreciate your expertise, and the service at C1 Chiropractic is excellent. You’re all friendly and welcoming, professional and efficient, and I would strongly you recommend you to anyone.

Hi Elly, I survived grading! Just want to say thank you, don’t think I could have if you hadn’t patched me up earlier, it made a real difference.

I first visited Elly to treat a persistent shoulder injury that had been causing me pain for some time. Within just a couple of sessions the pain had eased, my mobility had increased and I was able to train as normal. I’ve been having regular sports massage with Elly ever since and find it invaluable for preventing injury, speeding up recovery and improving my flexibility.

After a year of suffering with a chronic back and hip problem and with no relief from regular treatment by an osteopath I decided to see Elly. Within the first 20 mins she referred me to a Chiropractor and between them both I then received regular treatment over a matter of weeks which has really helped resolve my pain.

Hi Elly. Hope you had a nice weekend, mine was enjoyable due to a vast improvement with the back pain, the exercises you suggested have really helped and I've reduced painkillers, I feel so much better. Many thanks.
